Why a platform switch needs professional guidance

Export the data, import it, done — sounds simple. In practice, most migrations fail on the details: missing redirects, broken product data, lost customer history, or an SEO decline that takes months to recover from. I guide the entire process so nothing gets lost.

Data loss

Products, customers or order history get lost in a poorly executed migration — and are barely recoverable afterwards.

SEO loss

Every URL without a redirect is a ranking that doesn't carry over — and lost revenue that only shows up months later.

Time overhead

Without a plan, a migration ties up weeks of capacity that's then missing elsewhere in day-to-day business.

What a professional Shopify migration brings you

Complete data migration

Products, variants, customers, order history, metafields — everything is transferred cleanly to Shopify. No manual rework, no missing data.

Protect rankings instead of rebuilding them

Complete URL mapping and a redirect strategy. Your organic rankings survive the platform switch — that's mandatory, not optional.

Experience with Shopware, Magento & co.

Whether Shopware, Magento, WooCommerce, WordPress or another platform — I know the quirks of every source system and what matters for the migration.

Not just migration, but guidance

The migration doesn't end with the data import. I monitor your new store after go-live, catch errors and make sure everything runs smoothly.

What's included in my Shopify migration

Four steps from analysis to a monitored go-live.

01 — Analysis

Migration analysis & SEO audit

Page structure, URL architecture, product data and SEO status in view: which rankings are worth protecting, which URLs need redirects. The result is a clear migration plan.

02 — Data

Data migration & mapping

Products, variants, customers, orders, metafields, images — cleanly mapped and transferred. For complex structures I build custom mapping logic.

03 — Setup

Shopify setup & customization

Theme, navigation, checkout, apps and settings configured so the store performs from day one. Including Shopify Plus setup where needed.

04 — Go-live

Go-live, redirects & monitoring

All redirects set, the new store live, crawling and rankings monitored. In the first weeks after launch I step in if something's off.

Migration by source system

Shopware to Shopify

Mapping properties and custom fields cleanly to Shopify metafields, translating categories into collections, and catching Shopware's often complex URLs with redirects. On Shopify Plus, checkout customizations and B2B features come on top.

Magento to Shopify

Catalogs that grew over years with complex attribute sets, multiple store views and deeply nested URLs. The focus is on clean product mapping, customer history and a resilient redirect plan.

WooCommerce and WordPress to Shopify

Plugin dependencies and often no uniform URL logic. Products, variants, customers and orders come along, and the SEO structure is migrated cleanly with them.

Shopify to Shopify & Shopify Plus

Switching from Shopify Basic to Plus, merging multiple stores, or a freshly rebuilt store. The focus is on data cleanup, URL structure and theme rather than platform differences.

Assessing effort and risk

I take a look at your current store and platform and assess the effort and risks involved.

Step 02

Migration plan & mapping

A clear roadmap before we start

You get a clear plan: which data gets migrated how, which URLs need redirects, and what the timeline is.

Step 03

Migration & go-live

Migrate, test, go live

I migrate, test, go live — and monitor your new store afterwards for several weeks.

What a Shopify migration costs

The range is wider for migrations than for any other project — not because of the product range, but because of the source system. A WooCommerce store with a manageable catalog is comparatively straightforward, a mature system with custom development and connected inventory management is more involved. That's why I don't quote a fixed price before seeing the source system — and give you a fixed one afterwards instead of an open-ended hourly bill.

  • Fixed price as soon as the source system has been reviewed
  • Complete redirect mapping included
  • Monitoring in the first weeks after go-live

Migration without losing rankings

For a fashion retailer with around 25,000 organic impressions per week, I rebuilt the entire store — with identical URLs and identical content.

+25 %
organic clicks, eight weeks after vs. eight weeks before
+39 %
impressions in the same period
547 → 967

To be clear: this is one project, not a statistic, and the store was already on a growth trajectory beforehand. What this proves isn't that a system switch drives growth — what it proves is that it didn't cut it off. Numbers from the store's Google Search Console.
When switching to Shopify doesn't make sense: If your current system works and the processes are settled, I advise against it. A system switch pays off when maintenance takes more capacity than development, or when every adjustment needs a developer — not as an end in itself. With deeply integrated inventory management or heavily customized pricing logic, the honest answer is sometimes that the effort outweighs the benefit. I say that before the quote, not halfway through the project.

Frequently asked questions about Shopify migration

How long does a Shopify migration take?

That depends on the source platform and the amount of data. A simple migration can be done in 4 to 6 weeks, complex projects with thousands of products and custom modifications take 8 to 12 weeks. You get a clear timeline upfront.

Will I lose my SEO rankings during the migration?

Not if the migration is planned properly. I build a complete redirect mapping and monitor indexing after launch. The goal: no relevant ranking gets lost.

Can customers and order history be transferred?

Yes. Customer data including addresses and order history is fully migrated. Customer passwords cannot be transferred for security reasons — customers receive an invitation to set a new password.

What happens to my old store during the migration?

Your old store keeps running normally. The new Shopify store is built and tested in parallel. Only once everything is ready do we switch over.

Does the migration work for very large catalogs?

Yes. I have experience with catalogs of several thousand products. For large data volumes I rely on automated migration scripts and Matrixify for the data import.

Do you also migrate from less common platforms?

My focus is on Shopware, Magento, WooCommerce and WordPress. But migrating from other systems such as Gambio, JTL, Oxid or Prestashop is possible too — we clarify that in the initial consultation.
